In my honest opinion, the best way to get over nerves is to just not think about the competition. I found that whenever I sat there and watched the teams we were going against, I always felt like I had to throw up before I went on the floor. Once I started doing All Star cheerleading, I just stopped watching the other teams. Go meet other teams, talk, play around with your friends. Support the other competing squads. The more you put pressure on your performance the more nerves you build up. Having team traditions to keep your mind of the performance itself is always good! Most teams come up with a ritual that they do every time before they hit the floor. Maybe you could bring this idea up to your coaches. Listening to music helps a lot too. Especially if you listen to your favorite artist. Find your best possible playlist and let it rip until you calm down!
