What are some ways to dispose of or recycle used cooking oil?
This evening on BBC local TV news there was a report that there are a number of collection points in Kent where they are collecting used cooking oil, no matter how contaminated it may be, and they are processing it and using it in diesel engines to produce electricity which can be sold to the national grid. In fact there are commercial kits on the market which enable people to run a domestic processing plant to produce fuel to be used in their own diesel cars. You can obtain the raw material by collecting the used oil from local restaurants. At one time the restaurants would give away their old oil but they have now realised that there is a lucrative market for it.
are you talking about home use?maybe you can talk to someone in the restaurant biz and they will let you dump it there.i used to work in a deli at a gas station and we had to pay for someone to take away our used grease.then one day this guy came in and asked if he could have it if he picked it up on a regular basis.he had converted his truck engine to burn the oil.he said he had purchased some sort of filtration system and converter for his engine for about 3 grand. sounds like a wonderful solution but might be hard to hook up with someone that owns one.
