What are some unusual, and very interesting facts about vampires?
– Gipsies believed that the mortal child of (someone who had become) a vampire was a ´dampire´ and was the only one who could see him and defeat him. – Vampires are said to be repelled not only by garlic and crucifixed, but also salt and holy icons. – Suspected vampires were sometimes buried face-down, so if they attempted to dig themselves out, they´d only dig deeper. – It was believed that vampires had strange compulsions which would help keeping them at bay: Any knots that caught their eye, they had to undo, so a net could occupy them for a long time. In the same way, they would be compelled to pick up grains or kernels, so a floorful of seeds would distract them for hours. – The actual cause for becoming a vampire is these days held to be contagion, but in the past, many things were believed to cause it, from being a werewolf during life, to being an evil person, to having blue eyes or red hair.
