Hello, I’m also taking the History 1 exam this August. Several tips: When studying, you need to have balance. Focus (for example) 20 minutes on each different component. I can not tell you which part to study for the most because sometimes on exams, they focus a lot on terms (30-40 marks solely on terms), but sometimes they focus more on the pieces. For composer descriptions, it is best to memorize their principal works/genres first (there might be 10 mark, 20 mark questions based on composers’ works, or may pop up in true/false trivia questions or matching). Their style points are the second most important (again, a 20 mark single question on composers’ style might appear) The life component is the easiest and will usually only get you 2, or 3 marks out of 10. Memorize mostly the style points/works, and then add important life details. For all pieces, memorize the basics: tempo marking, meter, key, important style features (i.e., Symphonie fantastique mov.5 – dies irae theme presented
