What are some tips for using the Internet as an instructional tool?
First and foremost, the Internet is a wealth of information. Students can develop critical research and evaluation skills by using the Internet. There are three levels of Internet researching: • I Search • We Search • Free Search I Search (guided): The teacher selects the most appropriate sites for a given topic and instructs students to visit only those sites. The teacher might also select a website to demo or present to the class, but the students don’t use the computer. The teacher takes a little time to research, so the students don’t waste time. Tips for getting students to the correct URL: • Students handwrite a URL (copied off the board) and type it into their web browser. • Students select a bookmark or favorite from their web browser. • Students click on a hyperlink located on their floppy disk. • Students copy a URL from a document on their computer and paste it into their web browser.
