Cucumbers need plenty of water and when you get your Cucumber Seeds and/or plants try to get varieties that are resistant to as many diseases as possible in your area.  I find trellising cucumbers keeps them straighter, cleaner, and less susceptible to slugs, or ground rot.  One of the biggest problems with cucumbers is the striped cucumber beetle, it is a small insect and spreads  mosaic wilt disease to the cumber plants which will dry up and die.  Also self pollinating varieties are more dependable for an early crop or in cooler climates.
