What are some specific directions for future research?
A. One of our long-term research focuses is developing and evaluating enrichment methods. Enrichment serves to make life interesting for this family of chimpanzees and potentially help other captive chimpanzees as well. With regard to communication we have another long-term project that is studying gestural dialects used by this family of chimpanzees and free-living chimpanzees in Africa. In addition we still examine these chimpanzees’ use of ASL with humans and each other. Check out the current research projects page for a more complete list of projects.
