I think that the degradation of forests is one of the largest problems that humans face. Much of the remaining forest in southeast Asia is degraded and rapidly disappearing, being replaced by palm oil plantations. I think if a global price is placed on carbon at COP 15 (copenhagen) then protection may occur of remaining habitats as if they are cleared massive amounts of emissions will occur. I think also a form of conservation tradeoff (here in Australia we call it biodiversity banking) where the developed world can purchase or pay a developing country dollars to protect the rainforest so they can either do a destructive action (such as build a freeway or build a shopping mall) or offset previous destructive activity (Wall mart in the US has done this through biodiversity offsetting of wetlands).
