What are some short and long term solutions for our financial problems?
The financial problems we face today did not develop overnight. While our past leaders have known for many years where we were headed and it is not my intention to lay blame on them, we must work together to find immediate, short-term, and long-term solutions. Immediately, we must stop the bleeding. We must stop irresponsible promotions and spending beyond authorized levels and available cash allotments. As an example, GPSS must not continue to spend beyond their allocation and must be held accountable for erroneously certifying funds they do not have. Department heads and fiscal managers are certifying officers for our government. They have the responsibility to prioritize spending and must not spend funds they do not have. Certifying officers must be responsible money managers and must be held accountable for false or inaccurate certification of funds.
