What are some shelters that euthanize dogs?
Go to your county – or a nearby county if yours doesn’t have a shelter – Animal Services. That’s what used to be called “the pound” and dogs there are put down fast (often in 3 to 5 days if there is no room). Our rescue asks to be called when our breed of dog is scheduled to be put down from our Animal Services, I’ve taken in quite a few from there, fostered them and found them good homes. We have one right now whose time was up – we got him the day he was to be put down, beautiful dog, just scared and not overly friendly to people who looked at him. He’s safe now and sweet as can be since he’s not afraid any more. Sometimes all it takes is giving a frightened dog time to feel safe and to trust, it’s always worked for dogs I took from kill shelters. Any dog you adopt from Animal Services is a life saved. Good for you for wanting save a dog.
