What are some school proxies?

0

The proxy sits between your school workstations & the outside world. When you try to surf the internet, your workstation places the request to the proxy. The proxy then connects to the internet on your behalf & sends the info back to your workstation. The reason they do this is threefold. 1) If you try to connect to a website that is visited frequently, the odds are that the proxy server already has the site cached on it’s own hard drive from the last user surfing to it. In this case it responds with the info it is already storing & doesn’t have to visit the target site again. Therefore, you get the response a lot quicker. 2) It protects the school network from attacks off the internet 3) It can filter requests & block inappropriate traffic / website requests, eg. Adult sites, pirate file downloads, etc.
