What are some remedies for fire ant bites?
I use vinegar followed by baking soda. Sometimes I scrub the area with a little vinegar and then rinse. On the wet skin I apply baking soda and sometimes rub it in. It works okay. Those little boogers put out some nasty stings. I have even used table salt and spit in a pinch to help relieve the itch. There is more data about fire ants on this site or click on my name. The venom in fire ants is an alkaloid, whereas many other insects put out a formic acid. Chewing some garlic and then applying the “chew” is said to work well with many insect bites. The saliva enzymes and garlic make a good mix. It is pretty effective. Sometimes I get relief by cutting a potatoe or a leafy green vegetable (like spinach) and rubbing it on a bite.
