What are some reasons why marijuana should be legalized? ?
I don’t defend smoking marijuana or taking harder drugs, but banning drugs does not stop people using them. Drug use has massively increased since they were illegalised and it has also led to the increase in organised crime. (This increase began in the US with the Prohibition on alcohol). It has also encouraged police corruption. Police have quotas and are rewarded for busts as in incentinve. This leads drugs being planted on innocent people. Before the laws, a minority of people used drugs and since the laws were made those people have continued to use them, along with many more people who previously did not. Read the sources for more.
1: It is a natural grown herb unlike alcohol that is made, and prescription drugs that cause more health issues. #2: It has medical advantages. When a person is suffering (pain) and can’t eat, to smoke a joint eases the pain and most often gives them an appetite. Alcohol makes you less hungry and causes more pain. #3: Most people don’t know the good of this HERB, and it should not be called a drug. #4: If legalized, the government would see money from it’s taxing, just like cigarettes and alcohol therefore, it would benefit millions of American’s instead of giving money toward fighting the “herb”. #5: Cops would have more time to catch rapists, robbers, and crack heads if they weren’t so worried about the little guy with a little natural herb (pot). It’s a win-win world.
I don’t smoke pot, so I think my input should be of particular interest. Marijuana should be legalized. It would remove the extensive criminality associated with the production and sale of it. It would put production and control into the hands of the government. The product would be high quality and consistent, prices would be controlled and the government realize massive revenues (which they would then piss away on pointless, stupid programs, but that’s not the point). All the cases involving pot (possession, sale, trafficking) would become things of the past, thus allowing the legal system to address more important, pressing matters. Law enforcement could focus on other issues. I did my senior thesis on this topic (pros and cons). While marijuana use is not without consequence, I think we have to consider the consequence of alcohol consumption, which is legal. Tobacco smokers suffer negative effects of their habits as well but tobacco is freely available. To say that marijuana use ha
