What are some reasons why baron pierre de coubertin revived the modern olympics games?

The Baron was interested in having an event that reflected the ideals of the original Olympics. Ideals of fairness, competitiveness, striving, doing your best, and the pride that comes with representing your country (although in ancient times the competitors represented city/states in Greece, not countries). For many years, the world had not had anything like that people could look up to and or send their youth to that came close to that. In fact one would be hard pressed to find anything in history apart from medieval jousting tournaments where such gatherings and tournaments took place. He decided that reintroducing the concept and promoting it was a good thing because in addition to what I mentioned above, it would help reduce animosity between peoples from different cultures and nations.
