What are some really good examples of civil disobedience?
Peaceful protest marches. Sit-ins. Opposing the law by doing the opposite of what it demands. During the civil rights movement black students sat at lunch counters reserved for whites. Black and White Freedom riders paid for tickets and sat side by side on buses in the south that prohibited such behavior. In India, before the civil rights movement in America, Gandhi led men and women into the ocean to make salt, which was prohibited. There is a price to pay for civil disobedience. You must be willing to be jailed. Even if the law or rule changes your record will not be expunged. In the case of civil rights participants here in the U.S. some fighting bigotry paid with not only a rap sheet, but also with serious injuries, some never finished their college educations that got side tracked for the worthy cause, and a few paid the ultimate price with their lives.
