Stephanie Stinson: One must posses a strong honest work ethic, be open, empathetic, a good listener, approachable, flexible, confident and be aware of “knowing what you know, but realizes what you don’t know.” Some of these qualities should be present and just like everything in life, should always be a work in progress and a continuous growth process. Q: What are some important lessons you think healthcare leaders should learn in order to be successful? SS: Learn that people are human, and no one person is perfect or better than anyone else. It is good to have high expectations, but if you set unrealistic and unachievable expectations, then everyone fails. Learn to recognize individual strengths and give people the chance to allow those strengths to grow. Everyone has something to offer to an organization, and it is your job as a leader to learn to recognize it. Be dedicated and believe in what you are doing.
