What are some properties of ionic compounds?
Ionic compounds are also known as salts in the majority of cases. They are usually hard and brittle, conduct when molten or dissolved, and have very high melting and boiling points. Most are soluble in polar solvents such as water. Interestingly, all ionic compounds are solids at room temperature. When they are melted or dissolved in water, it will conduct electricity. Also, when they are combined, they form a crystal, held together by ionic bonds.
