What are some practical ways husbands can love their wives?
It’s interesting that Ephesians 5:25 commands husÂbands to love their wives. First, it demonstrates that real love is not just a feeling that comes upon a person–it is an act of the human will. If it were not an act of the will, God would not command us to do it. Also, Paul doesn’t say, “Rule your wives.” There is a headship and one who follows, but the husband’s perspective of his role should be focused not on the aspect of his authority, but on the aspect of sacrificial love for his wife. Even more interesting than the command itself, though, is the standard of love that is set before husbands. The verse says, “Love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” It is the most selfless, giving, caring kind of love conceivable to the human mind.
