Hatshepsut, the first Egyptian queen to rule as king, is dubbed to be the ‘First Great Woman of the World.’ Traditionally, an Egyptian king was male, a manifestation of the falcon-headed male god, Horus. Hatshepsut being a woman had a very restrictive rule over her country. She married her half-brother, Thutmose II, and co-reigned with him. When Thutmose II died, she was co-regent to Thutmose III, but she eventually had enough power and influence to be crowned as female king and she ruled her country in guise of a man to preserve her dominance. Her reign which lasted for twenty-two years and nine months is recorded to be one of the most peaceful and prosperous times Egypt has ever had. She had successful military campaigns to Nubia, Levant.
