• When Russia officially joined the G-7 in 1998, it made the group G-8. The G-7 still exists as a grouping for Finance Ministers. There are also other formations of countries that use the G prefix, such as the G-20 group of Finance Ministers and the G-77 trade negotiations grouping. None of these are connected to G-8.
