What are some of WHSRN’s successes so far?
WHSRN has helped many governments, agencies and organizations to recognize the value of shorebirds and their habitats. For instance, the Government of Panama called the designation of the Upper Bay of Panama as a WHSRN site the “ring on its finger” [anillo en el dedo]. WHSRN has also developed new approaches to collaborative site-based conservation such as the Site Assessment Tool to help guide site-based conservation of many sorts. WHSRN’s collaborative, non-regulatory approach to conservation has been a model for more than 20 years that is increasingly adopted by a variety of conservation partnerships.
