RS: Our own media celebrates the personality-based, singular genius. I think we need to start celebrating the genius of teamwork. When you’re talking about sustainability, it’s got to be the group. Sustainability is a fantastic form and meaning giver. I think sustainability can recast what the profession can be. If we don’t grab hold of it, we are missing a huge opportunity from the professional side to reinsert ourselves into the critical issues of the day. BL: Students see it as a way that they can impact the social good of the world. It’s pretty inspiring. That’s a change from five years ago when students wanted to be star designers, now they want to have their work be relevant to them and to others, and they want to make a difference in that regard. Sustainability is a disciplinary distinction. I believe the goal of sustainability is the equitable distribution of resources, the fundamentally better quality of life, and the relationship that we have with our environment. We are real
