What are some of the top free alternatives to Adobe Acrobat (PDF authoring tool)?
Just to clarify, Adobe Acrobat used to be both a PDF reader and writer. Adobe’s PDF reader was known as Adobe Acrobat Reader. To author a PDF, you’d have to buy the full version of Adobe Acrobat. Today, the name Adobe Acrobat just refers to the PDF authoring software. The PDF reader freeware has become a separate software called Adobe Reader. What hasn’t changed is that Adobe’s PDF writer still comes with a price tag. Fortunately, free PDF Writers are now available not just for download and offline use, but also for online, no download required, web browser-based use. So many are they now that I’ve lost track of the best among them. I’d like to weed out those that aren’t really free, like those that are free for limited use or a limited time. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could recommend what the best free PDF writers are. A free online PDF writer would be the most universally useful.
