What are some of the recommended shelf lives of meats in the freezer?
There is never an exact science regarding frozen storage. Packaging varies greatly amongst consumers as well as temperatures. However, here are some recommended guidelines to follow. Fresh Meats (Chicken, Pork, Beef, & Lamb): 6-12 months depending on the type of meat. Seafood: Fresh lean fish: cod, flounder, trout, haddock, halibut, pollack, perch: 4-6 months typically. Fresh fatty fish: mullet, smelt, salmon, mackerel, bluefish, tuna and swordfish: 2-3 months typically. Shellfish: will usually store for 3-4 months.
