What are some of the most interesting places to go in Guatemala?
By far, the most interesting place to visit is Tikal. The splendor and mystique is second to none. As far as nice places to visit, I would list Semuc Champey as number 2 on the list of things to do. Most people don’t make it out there because it is a long trek, but it is well worth the trip. If you are looking for something closer to the city, Antigua and Panajachel (Lake Atitlan) are the places to go. Rio Dulce is beautiful and so is Monterrico, but make sure you bring plenty, and I mean PLENTY, of insect repellant. Map out your trip and have fun. Use common sense and you safety shouldn’t be a problem. Travel after dark becomes dangerous, but it is still possible.
