What are some of the most common misconceptions concerning energy efficiency?
Higher SEER equipment will save you money. As a general rule the additional cost of the equipment and increased cost of the often proprietary parts are more than the energy savings over the life of the equipment. This is not to say that upgrading from a 10-15 year old 6 or 8 SEER unit to a minimum 13 SEER unit will not save you a considerable amount of money, but choosing a 14 or 15 SEER unit over a 13 SEER unit often does not pay.
