What are some of the most common internal parasites found in my pet?
• Animals can be infected with hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms, whipworms, and Giardia, to name a few. Many of these parasites can also infect humans. For the safety of our clients and their pets, we recommend annual intestinal parasite examinations for pets. For clients with immunocompromised family members we recommend regular prophylactic deworming to reduce the likelihood of transmission of these zoonotic parasites. • Roundworms: There are over 80,000 different described species of roundworms and over 15,000 are parasitic! If you suspect your pet of having Roundworms, please see a certified veterinarian. • Hookworms: Hookworms live in the small intestine of its host and are much smaller than the Roundworm. The most significant risk of Hookworm infection is anemia and loss of iron and protein in the gut.
