What are some of the major toxins that we should try to avoid in our homes?
Rick: With pesticides it’s very important people try to eat organic whenever they can and when they are gardening, use non-toxic alternatives to pesticides. We looked at a variety of toxins that are associated with plastic. We looked at Biphenyl A and phthalates, both of which are found in various plastic products and ooze out of those them especially if they are chewed by little kids or when used in contact with food and beverages. Bruce: That’s one of our very basic recommendations. Don’t heat up food in a plastic container in the microwave. The chemicals ooze into the food. Rick: Trying to reduce exposure to plastics in and around the kitchen is a good idea. Trying to get rid of those vinyl ducks – it’s funny – we call them rubber ducks but they are actually vinyl. It’s the perfect icon for what we’re talking about. It’s a well-loved, seemingly innocuous part of the house that is actually full of toxic chemicals of most harm to kids.
