What are some of the major diversity-related issues facing EKU today?
We need to increase the numbers of our diverse student, faculty and staff population. I am still hearing from students I am the only one in my class, in my residence hall, on my residence hall floor. In some academic colleges, we have only one ethnic minority faculty member and in many academic department we have no persons of color. So although we have made some improvements we still, as with many institutions in the state, have improvements that can be made. We also are in a position of educating our majority population so that they are not threatened by diversity initiatives and do not feel left out in the diversification of our University. What has EKU done well in its efforts to recruit and retain minority students, faculty and staff? The University has taken on the philosophy that it is everyones responsibility to recruit and maintain a diverse community.
