In 1970, neo-Nazi William Pierce, left his position at the American Nazi Party to assist in the development of the National Youth Alliance. Pierce wrested control of the group from Mr. Carto. In 1971 hostilities between Pierce and Carto became public following a dispute over mailing lists.
