National Alliance, Hillsborough West Virginia, headed by William Pierce The Hillsborough, West Virginia based neo-Nazi National Alliance is the second largest neo-Nazi type organization in the United States, with 44 chapters.The NA grew out of a youth organization established by Willis Carto to support Hitlerian philosophy and the 1968 presidential candidacy of noted segregationist and former Alabama governor George Wallace. In 1970, neo-Nazi William Pierce, left his position at the American Nazi Party to assist in the development of the National Youth Alliance. Pierce wrested control of the group from Mr. Carto. In 1971 hostilities between Pierce and Carto became public following a dispute over mailing lists. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Pierce received his Ph.D. in Physics in 1962 from the University of Colorado. Dr. Pierce taught physics at Oregon State University for three years.
