What are some of the larger mechanical problems I should look out for?
By 1997 Chrysler had a lot of the “bugs” worked out on the neon. 95 was the 1st model year. If you are looking for a safe car to get her around in-town and the vehicle comes with at least some maintenance records, I would say the neon is just as reliable as any other american made sedan in its price range. Keep in mind that this vehicle is 10 years old. If you are looking for a mechanically sound car for more extensive driving that is about the same size I would reccomend something else: Honda Civic or Accord, Toyota Corolla, or a Nissan Altima or Sentra would be a far better choice.
