Fungi Fungi are multi-cell organisms that tend to live in warm, damp places. Fungi can cause skin problems, such as athlete’s foot and ring worm. Hand Washing Frequent and proper hand washing is important for preventing germs from entering the human body, or spreading germs onto other people. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing hands with soap and water for 15 to 20 seconds.
