WHAT ARE SOME OF THE GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF DELEGATION?
Wis. Stats 448.03(2)(e) allows for the practice of certain delegated medical acts to someone assisting a physician while under proper supervision. While the rule is rather broad, there are certain principles that a delegating physician (and delegate) should consider: The physician delegating a patient service is responsible for the acts of the delegate as if the physician provided the service. The act is delegated under the physicians license. Proper delegation requires that the physician be familiar with the training, skills, and experience of the person to whom the act is delegated. No licensee may accept a delegated activity he or she believes places a patient at unacceptable risk of harm, or which is otherwise prohibited by law. The delegating physician must inform the patient that the act is being performed by someone other than a licensed physician.
