What are some of the general limitations of the weather forecast?
ARPS itself is a very powerful atmospheric modeling program capable of performing complex and detailed weather forecasts. However, due to computational considerations and cluster size, there are some limits to the forecasts when being run from the web-based program on the university’s computer cluster. For instance, forecast resolution is generally limited to a certain number relative to the size of the forecast itself. A 1 kilometer resolution will be allowed on a domain size that is 128 kilometers, but it would not be allowed on a domain size of 256 kilometers (which would effectively quadruple the computation required for the forecast).
