What are some of the features of the preferred preliminary draft alternative?
Under the preferred preliminary draft alternative: • All boating activities that currently occur would continue to occur in the west pool. • No-wake boating would be allowed on most of the lake. • All six of the wildlife-dependent public uses (environmental education, interpretation, hunting, fishing, wildlife observation and photography) would continue to be allowed. • Jogging, picnicking, and swimming would also be allowed. • Use of the lake as an irrigation facility would not be affected. We believe that the space and time constraints applied to recreational activities in the preferred preliminary draft alternative will allow us to meet the purposes of the Refuge while still providing a diversity of recreational opportunities for the public. Refuge staff will continue to research the scientific literature to analyze the compatibility of the proposed uses as the draft is written.
