What are some of the current challenges the society is facing?
Presently, the society faces two primary challenges. First, there is the issue of building and maintaining our membership. Although attendance at the annual meetings has been increasing during the past 8 years, many attendees are not society members. Given the tremendous attention focused on landscape-level management, planning, and research, US-IALE must work to attain better recognition as the focal society for landscape ecologists in the US. Second, the society continues to work toward serving the needs of the various elements of its membership. Landscape ecologists come from a variety of disciplines and organizations. Balancing the expectations and needs of these diverse disciplines remains challenging.
