I can’t say that these are necessarily the most common reasons, but in my limited experience these are the things which come up frequently. • A deep seated belief that their vote “won’t make any difference”. I’ll leave you to determine whether you think this is logical or not ;-). • The conviction that “they’re all as bad as one another”. That is, the people choosing not to vote on feel that the range of options open to them are all equally bad, and don’t wish to endorse any one of them. This is perhaps all too common, but short of advising people making this sort of statement to form their own party it’s a rather difficult problem to get around. • Apathy; many people simply don’t have enough interest to bother to make the effort to vote.
