What are some of the characteristics of Arabic writing?
Arabic is written and read from right to left. Short vowels are only represented as diacritic marks, which are typically only included in religious source texts such as the Quran and Hadith. Long vowels and diphthongs are written, however, the letters used to write them may also represent other sounds (semi-vowels, etc.).
