What are some of the Bike Feds accomplishments?
• Securing your legal right to ride on the road – the Bike Fed led the way in creating the Wisconsin law that recognizes bicycles as legal vehicles for use on roadways • Passage of Complete Streets legislation, making Wisconsin one of the first states in the nation to require the establishment of bikeways in new, state-funded road construction • Increasing state funding for bicycle lanes and facilities by $5 million (2009-2010 budget) • Legislation requiring parked motorists to look for cyclists and other road users before opening their car doors • Making communities throughout the state more bicycle-friendly by developing bicycle plans and improvements for municipalities throughout the state, including Milwaukee, Door County, the Oneida Nation, Marathon County, Green Lake, Kenosha, Mount Pleasant, Marshall and West Allis • Getting bike racks on buses in Milwaukee County, the state’s largest transit system • Teaching more than 4,500 kids to bike safely to school
