What are some of the biggest misconceptions youve run across in regards to performance royalties and related subject?
Most people know that ASCAP pays a writer and/or performer for a song being played on the radio. I feel that some people don’t know about the process that goes into ASCAP collecting on their behalf. After registering as a member, the next step is to register your titles which you can do yourself online. Do you ever run into discrepancies as far as different parties claiming credit for a song? Often times there are people who say they’ve written or produce a song and most of the times they didn’t but they want to put in a discrepancy which they’re entitled to. The ones that rightfully have publishing or writing on a record its simply a matter of writing us a letter saying that the splits on the record is wrong and your not being represented on the record. We’ll then reach out to all parties involved and let them know there is a discrepancy and help resolve the issue. All monies due are held by us until the discrepancy is resolved.
