What are some of the barriers people face when they try to access Federal Food Programs?
Many barriers deter individuals from accessing Federal Food Programs, such as poor customer service; difficulty finding the telephone numbers to their state or local county representatives; listening to long automated messages instead of speaking to an agent; the extensive length of some applications; and the lack of transportation to apply or interview for these programs. Eligibility requirements may also discourage applicants from applying. Other applicants may not yet realize how important SANAP benefits can be in contributing to an adequate diet.
