What are some of the applications that use RFDC?
RFDC complements many of the DoD’s military AISs. Using two types of RFDC, narrow band and spread-spectrum, RFDC combines the features of a PDCD and a two-way radio to send data to a remote AIT. In applications that require a real-time update to a database, using RFDC is preferred to sending data as a batch via a modem or a direct-connect download. RFDC is usually used to provide a real-time link between an AIS host computer and a handheld terminal. RFDC is used best to transmit source information in real-time from several subsystems to an AIS host system where cabling is not practical or desirable. Keeping that in mind, RFDC uses are too numerous to mention, spanning from data collection in the warehouse to feeding data to servers within hospitals, both in commercial settings as well as in harsh field environments.
