What are some of InstaRefs limitations?
Here are some of the many rules and situations InstaRef currently does not handle: • Men in motion. This is high on the to-do list because men in motion cannot legally crackback. • Fine detail situations. Some of the closest plays in football involve things like a receiver landing with one foot inbounds and one out of bounds… a runner diving at the 1 and reaching over the pylon… a defender muffing a fumble while touching the sideline…. But this level of location detail is beyond InstaRef’s scope. • Airborne players. • Forward progress, especially as it applies to airborne players. • Intentional grounding and other situations where the official must judge the player’s intent to conserve time or yardage. • Flagrant PFs and fighting; disqualifications. • Too many, or too few, players on the field. • Defenders may not block receivers who have reached the defender’s same yard line (9-3-4-c). There’s no way to indicate that this has happened. • Defensive pass interference legalized whe
