What are some negative consequences of substance use and abuse?
Getting severe mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (used to be referred to as ‘manic depression’) and both illnesses tend to involved psychosis (mental break from reality) and frightening hallicinations along with aggressive behavior – ending up in jail or prison – hurting one’s family by not being present emotionally as well as physically – causing fear of family members or anyone affected by the substance use – the person may get a brain injury or other serious permanent damage from using any types of substances. I would also like to add that inhalant use (“huffing” fumes or chemical vapors) is extremely destructive and deadly especially the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves). The chemicals used for huffing are literally poisons that were never meant to go through our systems. Inhalants are said to be The most dangerous of any drugs put together.
