What are some more serious causes of cough?
Asthma – Chronic, unexplained cough may be caused by asthma, especially in kids. Coughing at nighttime or after exercise may be the only symptoms of asthma in a child and should be investigated. A simple exam by your pediatrician may determine if asthma is present. For example your doctor may detect wheezing with a stethoscope that you can’t hear. Foreign body – Young kids with a prolonged, unexplained cough should be evaluated for an inhaled foreign body. Pneumonia – A serious lung infection is typically associated with symptoms other than just a cough. Fever, a sick feeling, decreased energy, poor eating, and/or vomiting may be an indication for a serious infection. Have your doctor perform an exam.
