What are some misconceptions of foster parenting and adoption?
I helped do training for foster care and adoption agencies, and the difficult thing is really helping people understand the breadth and the depth of the issues that the kids come in with and the emotional difficulty of having them pulled away from their family. Most of them come from a relatively difficult family situation, whether it’s drugs and alcohol, abuse, that sort of thing so when they come to your home they need a lot : When people think of adopting they want this baby and want everything to be perfect, but in life it isn’t that way even if you give birth. I mean nothing really prepares you to be a parent.
