Look, if you are going to come on here and ask for help with your poetry assignment, at least print out the poem. Second of all, if you had gone to class or paid any attention at all this semester, you would be able to answer that question easily yourself. Even if your instructor is a total moron who knows nothing about poetry, which is VERY likely, he or she still would have covered what a metaphor is and you would definitely be able to answer it yourself if you had paid any attention at all. Look up “metaphor” in your dictionary, then read the poem again. Besides that, I will tell you that Karl Shapiro would most certainly have viewed this question as a complete waste of time and a pretty good indication that your prof is a hack. You can quote me on that. I happen to have been reading Karl Shapiro’s prose earlier this week.

who is Karl shapiro?? Well i dont know the guy but i did a quick google on the INTERNETS (lol) and all I can come up with is that the poem starts off in a stationary position as if the reader is not moving. There is also a voice thats informing and an ambulance. As the title of the poem sugests it is about an accident,,,,So a car in stationary implies that a crash happend, this voice thats informing suggests to me that there is some kind of paramedic perhaps the driver is barely concious and is being instructed to breath or not to move or somethng. There is also a suggestion of an ambulance in the poem. Well i have given you some ideas to work with see what else you can dig up. Look at the grammer of the poem the words the arrangement of words is there a pattern. Look at the choice of words why did the writer use this particular word does it make you as the reader think a cirtain way etc Goood luck buddy have fun The poet has my first name and you have my last Initial hmmmmmmm,,,,,,Coi
