What are some medical symptoms of optic or hypothalamic gliomas?
Some symptoms include a swollen optic nerve (papilledema), abnormal eye movements (nystagmus), and personality changes. There may also be some vision loss or blindness. These tumours may cause changes in the hormones made by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. As a result, these tumours may also cause slowed or faster growth in the child, or diabetes insipidus. Infants may have extreme weight loss. This is called diencephalic syndrome.
