What are some jobs that Japanese Americans occupied during WWII?
I don’t think they ‘held’ ANY JOBS ‘DURING’ during WWII ! Maybe as ‘Translators’ but, I even doubt that? The Gov’t reached a point of hiring the “American Indians” to help with Verbal contact back n’ forth. Obviously NOBODY except the A/I knew what they were talking about over the Air Waves (Radio’s) . It greatly helped the Americans because ‘nobody’ on the Enemy side could translate! Great idea! As soon as the US Declared War on Japan after Pearl Harbor Attack, the Gov’t FEARED Sabbotage, and it was going on (Not ‘especially’ by ALL the Japanese in America). The Gov’t rounded many Japanese and their Friends & Families and put them in “Internment Camps”….like a Jail or a Consentration camp, WITHOUT the Torture and Mistreatment. All lost their Jobs and Posessions. I’d say DURING the War, NO! I could be WRONG. AFTER the War…..that’s another Story!
Unfortunately, most Japanese Americans and immigrants on the mainland were held in concentration camps for fear of sabotage. This was impractical in Hawaii though because of the huge portion of population being of Japanese ancestry. There was a very highly decorated regiment in the US Army made up of Japanese Americans.
