I second Daniel Carleton’s suggestion of Ultimate Boot CD. It includes a wide variety of tools for testing hardware, including the ubiquitous MemTest and also including both open-source tools and tools from hardware vendors (e.g. Seagate, IBM/Hitachi, etc.). In general these tools are also freely available from the vendors themselves, but UBCD combines them into a single location. One thing UBCD doesn’t have good support for is NTFS Chkdsk – for that you’re better off with something Windows based. UBCDforWindows is also a viable option, but note that it is *not* an ISO download. For licensing reasons you must build the UBCD4Win ISO yourself using your own installation media – they are obviously not allowed to distribute Windows components. There may also be other licensing issues for UBCD4Win depending on how you’re going to be using/distributing it.
